Climbing at Santa Clarita

Climbers hiking toward a rock formation near Santa Clarita

Just north of LA, on the boundary of the Angeles National Forest, lies an ancient group of monolithic crags made up of conglomerate sandstone.
Over the past few decades, sport routes have been established to make this a popular sport climbing destination for local LA climbers.

What to Bring:

Bring a small backpack (about 10-15 liters in size)
Remember to bring with you all the supplies you’ll need for the day including medications, low treats, lunch, snacks and water (1 liter is the usual but perhaps 2 liters in the summertime)

It’s a 25-minute hike in from where we park.

We will be hiking on dirt trails and small boulders. Shoes should be either approach shoes, hiking boots, or trail runners. Flip-flops are not recommended.

There are no restrooms at this climbing area, so we need to be comfortable with “nature’s latrine.”

We will be climbing in shady areas but some spots will be exposed to the elements:
Sun protection and wind protection are the main things to consider (layers are the way to go)
In the winter it can get chilly, so a beanie and puffy will be great additions.
The summertime can get toasty out there in the sun.
For summer trips, I’d add a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, lip balm, and a sun hoodie.

We won’t climb here on rainy days.
This location needs 3 days to dry out after the last rain.
Rain cancellations get a full refund.

Included:

If you have your own climbing gear, please feel free to bring it.
